On April 24 of this year, the staff of the B. Mailin Museum of Local Lore organized a photo and documentary exhibition entitled “Alashtyn Ardaktysy – Alikhan Bokeikhanov”, dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the birth of A. Bukeikhanov.
Alikhan Bokeikhanov was born in 1866 in the Karkaralinsky district of the Semipalatinsk region (now the Karaganda region). He came from the Tore family (descendants of the Genghisids), was a descendant of Khan Bokey. He received a brilliant education: he graduated from the Omsk Technical College and the St. Petersburg Imperial Forestry Institute. At the beginning of the 20th century, he became an active participant in public and political life. In 1906, he was elected a deputy to the First State Duma of the Russian Empire. After the February Revolution of 1917, he led the Alash movement, aimed at creating national autonomy for the Kazakh people, and became chairman of the government of Alash-Orda.
Alikhan Bokeikhanov is known not only as a politician, but also as an outstanding scientist who has made a significant contribution to the study of the history, ethnography and economy of Kazakhstan. He is the author of numerous scientific papers and publications. During the years of Soviet rule, he was subjected to repression and was shot in 1937. In 1989, he was fully rehabilitated.
The exhibition presents archival documents, photographs and materials reflecting the life, socio-political activities and scientific legacy of Alikhan Bokeikhanov. The exhibition reveals the multifaceted personality of an outstanding figure and allows for a deeper understanding of his contribution to the history of Kazakhstan.
