April 9 this year, the staff of the B. Mailin Museum of Local Lore organized a thematic hour “Chernobyl Tragedy” dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident.
During the event, the participants got acquainted with the tragic events of April 26, 1986, learned about the causes of the accident, its scale and long-term consequences for the environment and human health. Special attention was paid to the feat of the liquidators, including firefighters, who were the first to fight fire and radiation, showing courage and dedication.
The participants were presented with facts about the course of the liquidation of the consequences of the accident, as well as the topic of evacuation of the population and the creation of an exclusion zone. The event was accompanied by a story about the fates of people whose lives changed forever after the tragedy.
At the end of the thematic hour, the participants honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence.
