On November 28 this year, the B. Mailin Museum of Local Lore hosted an educational hour “Keepers of the priceless documentary memory of the people”, dedicated to the 230th anniversary of the archival business. The event was aimed at popularizing the archival service and revealing its key role in preserving historical memory and national identity.
The participants were given a brief overview of the history of archival development in Kazakhstan — from the first stationery repositories of the XVIII–XIX centuries and the centralization of the archival system after 1917 to modern digitalization processes. The significant stages of the archives’ formation during the war years, during the USSR period and during the era of Independence are noted.
Special attention is paid to the State Archive of the Beimbet Mailin district, which turns 37 this year. The archive staff told about the history of the institution, significant documents and modern areas of their professional activity.
The event emphasized the importance of archives as the basis of documentary truth and expressed gratitude to the archivists — keepers of national memory.
