On the occasion of the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Kazakhstan, which is celebrated on September 5, the staff of the Museum of Local Lore designed a photo and documentary exhibition “Akhmet Baitursynov – the pride of the Kazakh people” for cultural workers and the youth resource center.
Akhmet Baitursynov is an outstanding scientist, teacher, publicist and reformer of the Kazakh language. He is the founder of Kazakh linguistics, and the celebration of the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Kazakhstan is connected with his birthday. This is not surprising, because he made a huge contribution to the development of the Kazakh language, literature and education. In particular, he developed an alphabet based on Arabic graphics, known as “Tote jazu” (direct writing), and also created the first Kazakh alphabet book. His work on the preservation and development of the language was so important that it became the main theme of this holiday.
The exhibition introduces visitors to rare photographs, documents and materials reflecting the life and work of the great enlightener. Its purpose is to show the importance of his contribution to culture and education, as well as to emphasize the importance of preserving his native language. His works on grammar and linguistics still serve as the basis for studying the Kazakh language. As Baitursynov himself said, “Language is the basis of a nation’s existence.”
