On March 31, the B. Mailin Museum of Local Lore hosted a lecture for cultural workers dedicated to the feat of Hero of the Soviet Union Manshuk Mametova. Manshuk Zhiengalievna Mametova was a machine gunner in the 100th separate Rifle brigade of the Kalinin Front, and a senior sergeant in the Guards. She became the first Kazakh woman to be awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. She was born on October 2, 1922 in the village of Zhiekkum in the Urdinsky district of the Ural province. Before the war, she graduated from the Faculty of Labor and two courses at the medical institute, worked in the office of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Kazakh SSR, holding the position of secretary to the
Deputy Chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars. In the Red Army since September 1942. She began her service as a clerk at the headquarters of the 100th Kazakh Separate Rifle Brigade, and after completing the machine gun courses, she was appointed the first number of the machine gun crew. On
October 15, 1943, in heavy fighting for the liberation of the city of Nevel, Manshuk Mametova defended the dominant height to the last. Left alone of the entire machine-gun crew and being severely wounded by a fragment in the head, she continued to fire, destroying 70 enemy soldiers before dying a brave death. She was buried in Nevel. For her courage and heroism, she was posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the First degree, and was also awarded the highest award – the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
This feat will forever remain in the memory of the people, as an example of fearlessness and love for the Motherland.
