February 15 is a memorable day for every soldier and officer who went through the Afghan war. The withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan began on May 15, 1988, in accordance with the Geneva Agreements concluded on April 14, 1988 on a political settlement of the situation around the DRA (Democratic Republic of Afghanistan). About 620 thousand Soviet troops took part in the ten-year Afghan war, of which 22,269 were Kazakhstanis. In the foyer of the district House of Culture named after Elubai Umurzakov, museum staff organized a photo-documentary exhibition “They served in Afghanistan,” dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. Visitors are presented with materials dedicated to the event of that time: photographs, documents, personal belongings of Afghans, telling about the service and military operations in Afghanistan. This exhibition will continue to work at the Beimbet Mailin Museum of History and Local Lore until the end of the year. Anyone can visit the museum and familiarize themselves with the exhibition in detail.
