On April 30 of this year, the staff of the B. Mailin Museum of Local Lore organized an object exhibition from stock collections entitled “Peculiarities of the Kazakh national cuisine and kitchen utensils”.
The exhibition introduces visitors to the traditions of the Kazakh national cuisine, as well as to the features of kitchen utensils reflecting the lifestyle and cultural values of the people. The exhibition is based on authentic objects from the museum’s stock collections.
The showcases feature various types of dishes and utensils used both in everyday life and at the reception of guests. Among the exhibits are wooden kese for serving drinks, a ladle (ozhau), carved wooden dishes with a lid, as well as vessels for storing and cooking food. A special place is occupied by products related to the tradition of making koumiss — leather and wooden containers, which are characterized by practicality and durability.
The lower tier of the exposition is complemented by tea sets with national ornaments, reflecting the later stage of the development of the feast culture and the influence of a sedentary lifestyle. The ornaments decorating the dishes have a symbolic meaning, conveying the aesthetic ideas and worldview of the Kazakh people.
Each item of the exhibition is not only a household object, but also a carrier of history, traditions and craft skills. Through the exhibits presented, the peculiarities of nutrition, hospitality and lifestyle of Kazakhs are revealed.
The exhibition provides an opportunity for visitors to touch the rich cultural heritage, see the continuity of traditions and better understand the importance of national cuisine in the life of the people.
