On March 12 this year, the staff of the B. Mailin Museum of Local Lore held a historical hour “The name that became a symbol of freedom” for students of the S. Ergaliev school, dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding statesman and public figure Alikhan Bokeikhanov.
During the event, the students got acquainted with the life path and socio-political activities of the leader of the national democratic movement, one of the founders of the Alash movement. Special attention was paid to his struggle for the rights of the Kazakh people, the development of national statehood, as well as his contribution to science, journalism and the development of the Kazakh press.
The students were told about the role of Alikhan Bokeikhanov in the creation of Alash Orda, his desire to form autonomy and strengthen national identity. It was noted that the ideas and legacy of the outstanding figure played an important role in the formation of historical memory and national identity.
The historical hour contributed to the expansion of students’ knowledge of the history of Kazakhstan, fostering respect for national values and interest in the personality of one of the brightest representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia of the early 20th century.
