“B. Mailin is the pride of our region” thematic lecture on the 130th anniversary of his birth classics of Kazakh literature

November 15, 2024 marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of the classic of Kazakh literature B.J. Mailin, who made a great contribution to the formation of almost all its genres. In honor of the significant event on September 20 of this year, the staff of the B. Mailin Museum of Local Lore held a lecture on the topic “B. Mailin is the pride of our region” for students of the B. Mailin secondary school who live at the Daryn Secondary School and Krasnoselskaya secondary School.The purpose of this lecture was to introduce students to the life and work of B. Mailin. The lecture was aimed at attracting schoolchildren to writing, focusing on the importance of B. Mailin as a writer, playwright and one of the founders of Kazakh Soviet literature. The students had the opportunity to better understand his contribution to the literary heritage and be inspired by his ideas and themes reflecting the life of the people. The creative path of Beimbet Mailin began with the creation of poetic works – the first poem published in the periodical press was “Dumy” magazine “Aykap” in 1914. In the poems “Traits of a Muslim” published in 1912, “Need” in 1913, “Cattle” in 1914, “Wealth” in 1915, “Summer Evening” in 1915, Mailin described his thoughts about life, injustice, and the hard lot of the working people. The writer became known as the author of “little poems”, the poems were distinguished by both poetic and documentary content. Mailin is the initiator of the comedy genre in the Kazakh drama “Kalamkas”, “Deceived”. In the same years, he completed work on the opera libretto “Dubarai”, and an opera was staged based on the libretto “Zhalbyr”, which was highly appreciated in Moscow. In 1936, in collaboration with Gabit Musrepov, he worked on a script about Amangeldy Imanov. After completing work on the film, on October 6, 1937, he was arrested late in the evening. He was repressed in 1937. He was shot by the verdict of the Visiting session of the Military Colleague of the Supreme Court of the USSR on February 26, 1938. He was buried in a mass grave in the Almaty region. He was rehabilitated posthumously in 1957. Despite the tragic fate, B. Mailin’s legacy continues to live and inspire new generations. His works remain an important part of Kazakh literature, reflecting the values, problems and experiences of the people. In the year of the celebration of the 130th anniversary of the writer’s birth, this is not only an opportunity to recall his contribution to literature, but also an occasion for deep reflection on the significance of his work in the context of modern Kazakh culture. The lecture helped the students to learn more about his work and importance to the people.
